PCM introduces PCM Troika™: a high-performance surface transfer pump of multiphase liquids 15/05/2008

PCM Troika™ brings the efficient and robust performance of PCM progressing cavity pumps to surface transfer applications in the oil and gas industry.

Based on its long term experience in downhole progressing cavity pump technology, PCM, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of positive displacement pumps extends its expertise to surface transfer by offering a new progressing cavity pump specifically designed to handle the surface transfer of high-pressure, multiphase fluids in oil and gas fields. Many oil and gas wells produce fluids with varying levels of oil, gas, water and other substances, such as sand. These fluids are referred to as multiphase. Traditionally, the different component elements are separated on site and the oil is transferred to the processing station. But as a field grows in size, on-site separation becomes less cost effective; large quantities of separation equipment scattered across a field can be costly and time consuming to maintain. PCM Troika™ is a progressing cavity pump that makes it possible to transfer multiphase liquids straight from the well to a central separation station, eliminating the need for on-site separation. PCM Troika™’s design overcomes the primary obstacle to multiphase pumping – constantly changing gas-to-oil ratios and pressure levels. This benefit is enhanced when viscosity is also changing along the lifetime of the well. (Water cut change…) This is also the main reason for which other pump technologies (such as centrifugal, plunger and twin-screw pumps) cannot reliably and cost effectively handle multiphase liquids. PCM Troika™ handles virtually any mix of oil, gas, water and sand, including degassing fluids, sour environments. PCM Troika™ delivers this performance while providing the inherent advantages of PCP pumping – steady performance, non-pulsating flow and non-emulsifying fluid handling. PCM Troika™ also reduces operating expenses and maintenance costs. Due to its high hydraulic efficiency, it requires lower installed power and uses less electricity. The robust design ensures long term performance and increases mean time between failure (MTBF) even when handling complex fluids. PCM Troika™ is suited to a wide range of high-pressure, surface transfer applications in the oil and gas industry, including offshore campaign reinjection, water injection and polymer flooding, recovery of condensates, and as a commingling booster pump. Finally, PCM Troika™ features a modular design that is easily customizable. This simplifies the selection process and enables customers to obtain a configuration that is specifically tailored to their operational and fluid-handling requirements. About PCM Based in Paris, France with offices around the world, PCM is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of positive displacement pumps and fluid-handling equipment. It specializes in the development of pumping solutions for the lifting, transferring and dosing of abrasive, fragile, viscous, corrosive, hot and heavy products in challenging environments in the oil and gas, food and industrial sectors. PCM was co-founded in 1932 by the inventor of the Progressing Cavity Pump (PCP), René Moineau. For more information: www.pcm.eu
